2014 Chuckanut Enduro

This past weekend I attended my 2nd enduro of the year up in Larbee state park right outside of Bellingham! Downhill racing is over for the season so I figured why not? It'd be some fun and a little change in scenery. The course was full of fun trails filled with lots steep rooty chunder as well as a few uphill punches. I was out practicing early Saturday morning shuttling the race trails with a few others who had come up from Olympia trying to get a couple lines locked in. There were a couple greasy sections and about halfway down my first run I had a stumble which put my shoulder directly into a tree. This made the rest of Saturdays practice an uncomfortable experience and left me anxious on whether or not racing the next day was really a good idea.

Focused!

My shoulder seemed to loosen itself through Saturday night and I woke up feeling pretty fresh. I was race ready! The dirt had dried up a little making the conditions perfect. I took my time on all of the transfers and felt solid on the stages. The top of stages one, three and four all shared the same starting point and it was very windy. This made it hard to keep the muscles warm but by stage four I had timed it right and I wasn't sitting still for long. Times where tight and if you were to crash it pretty much meant your day was over so I focused on staying smooth and consistent throughout the race. I ended the day with a solid 4th place in the 18-29 expert category. Not bad for a downhill guy!

This was the last race for me this 2014 season and I'm looking forward to what 2015 is going to bring. Thanks to friends and family for the support!
